Well House is pleased to welcome people with disabilities and when taking a booking we will ask if guests have any special requirements.
Mobility Difficulties:
Well House is an old stone farmhouse, and therefore presents challenges to guests with mobility difficulties because of the stone steps from the drive to the path, and because of the nature of the staircase. Furthermore, in our Oak Bedroom there are steps down to the en-suite bathroom and, from our single room, a step back up to the landing. We point this out not as a deterrent, but simply to provide a realistic picture of what guests will encounter. Despite these features, if a guest with restricted mobility wishes to stay, we will do all we can to make this possible, and we have very successfully done so on occasions. However, we will advise against wheel chair users staying with us as they would not be able to access the bedrooms. Measures we can and have taken to ease access include:
* lending a helping hand to mount steps and stairs, including carrying luggage
* suggesting the use of the Pine Bedroom which has level access to its en-suite bathroom
* if the Oak Room’s bathroom is not in use, suggesting the use of its shower with a low step
* provision of a high-seated chair in a bedroom or sitting room
* use of our own downstairs toilet during breakfast time to preclude having to climb stairs again
* provision of a non-slip bath/shower mat
* night-lights on staircase and landing
Visual Disabilities:
We have successfully entertained a totally blind guest and we welcome guide dogs which
can sleep in the guest’s bedroom on a blanket or in their bathroom and also have the run of
the garden when necessary. We can make available a TV satellite receiver with a voice-over facility, and we can provide bright, angled lights to assist reading. We have powerful, hand-held torches which can be placed at a bed-side. The breakfast menu is in large print, and can be made larger with advance warning (as can any document we provide)
Allergies and food intolerances:
* when taking a booking we always ask if guests have any special dietary requirements as we can provide meat-free breakfasts and gluten free bread
* we advise guests that we have a cat and for those who are allergic to cats, but wish to stay, we advise the use of our Oak Bedroom as it has a board rather than carpeted floor
Group Accommodation:
From May this year we will be able to accommodate groups of up to ten people. This is because our neighbour has finished converting the stone barn that adjoins our garden and it now will be operates as a very nice holiday let with a ground floor bedroom and shower for people who find stairs difficult. The cottage can sleep four while our house can take up to six, but we can do breakfasts for everyone and the house can be used as a base for the week. This might suit large families, or groups that want to lock themselves away for a week in the countryside e.g. writers, musicians, yoga enthusiasts. We will be happy to discuss your particular requirements and provide a very reasonable quote.
