Tucked away in beautiful countryside, our wisteria-clad, oak-beamed, stone farm-house B & B dates from 1714. Chapel Lawn is five miles south of Clun, famous for the Clun Green Man and the Clun Beer festivals, and four miles from the Welsh border town of Knighton. Ludlow, well known for its Food Festival, is only fifteen miles away. Leintwardine, an ancient Roman military base where the rivers Clun and Teme join, is only a few miles away just inside Herefordshire, as are Lingen, Wigmore and Aymestrey. If you’re walking through Knighton along the Offa’s Dyke path we can arrange for you to be collected at the end of the day and returned the next morning.
The Redlake Valley is in the South Shropshire Hills, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This is an ideal spot for anyone wanting a bed and breakfast weekend with peace and tranquillity. The walks and views are superb; the pace of life is slow; people are friendly; the pubs and inns and beer are great. It’s the England we all think we remember that never really existed - except here, where the way of life and the people and their values embody what the rest of the busy world longs for.
We can provide double or twin en-suite accommodation and we have a single room as well that's ideal for children. Our breakfasts are generous and we use locally sourced ingredients including free-range eggs whenever they're available. Our garden is a delight to laze in and read a book or the Sunday papers. There's a large, elm-panelled living room with an inglenook fireplace and log burner, and a separate breakfast room with an open fire on chilly days. If you want TV we have it in the bedrooms and there's free Internet use as well. If it's too wet to go out, you can stay indoors and doze on a sofa.
We especially welcome walkers, horse riders and cyclists, and we can advise you on walks of varying lengths and difficulty, some right on our doorstep. We have secure storage for bikes and there's safe grazing just down the lane for horse riders. Collection by taxi from nearby railway stations such as Ludlow, Craven Arms and Bucknell - people and bikes - can be arranged. There are pubs with good food a few minutes drive away and we can arrange transport to a pub. We're not a hotel, so our accommodation is not licensed, but you can bring your own wine and beer. From May this year we will be able to accommodate groups of up to ten people. This is because our neighbour has finished converting the stone barn that adjoins our garden and it now operates as a very nice holiday let. The cottage can sleep four while our house can take up to six, but we can do breakfasts for everyone and the house can be used as a base for the week. This might suit large families, or groups that want to lock themselves away for a week in the countryside e.g. writers, musicians, yoga enthusiasts. We will be happy to discuss your particular requirements and provide a very reasonable quote.
