REDLAKE VALLEY WALK
This can be done as either a fgure of eight or a circular walk around the Redlake Valley of approximately seven Miles starting and ending at Well House. There are two quite steep hills and an optional half mile steep detour across Caer Caradoc and back to get a fabulour view across the Teme Valley to Mid Wales. It's a figure of eight with each half about three miles in length, so you can do it in one or two bites. The route is described below, but to see a map click here and then double click on the walking figure logo.
Map references are from OS Explorer Map 201 Knighton and Presteigne
1. If you're not staying at Well House B&B, park in Village Hall car park at Chapel Lawn (316764)
2. Walk south out of the village and shortly after Well House B&B on the right take lane on rhs signposted Squire Farm (318763)

4. Shortly after Smiling Tree and just before Bryncambric Farm go through aluminium kiss gate on rhs (316758) and walk through copse to gate at other end (315758)
5. Do not walk up steep hillside but take sloping path along the side of the hill with views of Chapel Lawn below.
6. On reaching stile on lhs (311760) :
if taking detour, climb stile and pick best route diagonally up the slope up to hill fort; walk through entrance to ditches and follow well-marked track for about 500m right across middle of fort to gateway through ditches on the other side; climb ditches to appreciate the view across the Teme Valley; retrace steps to where you left the main route
if not taking detour, carry straight on along footpath across fields to lane (303763)
7. Walk down lane to junction (310765)
8. Turn left and walk a short distance along road until you see white railings on rhs
9. Take turning right to Pentre
10. Walk through Pentre and just before Wheelbarrow Bridge (309772) take bridle path on rhs to Bergam (317776)

12. Turn right and follow lane in south easterly direction up gentle slope then down steeply to 'T' Junction at Pentre Hodre Farm (327770)
13. Turn right at T junction and walk between buildings down dip and up to another 'T' junction.
14. Pentre Hodre Pond (326767) is a good place for lunch.
15. Take lane down hill towards Chapel Lawn, but shortly after passing white house on lhs find a stile on rhs (325766) and take this path across field to Bryneddin Wood (if you wish to cut the walk short here you can carry on down the lane to Chapel Lawn)
16. Walk right through wood along its lower edge
17. On leaving wood, and just past Rock Cottage on your right, at map ref (310766) take a sharp turn back onto footpath that leads back to Chapel Lawn (if you pass between two cottages and link up with your earlier route you have gone too far)
18. Study map carefully to find correct route across fields back to Chapel Lawn.
