There mu
st be few better places than the Marches border country between England and Wales to spend a few days away from the unrelenting pressures of the workplace. So many of our guests tell us that this part of the country has never really been on their radar screens, but now they've experienced it they'll definitely return. The countryside is literally a maze of foot paths and other rights of way, and you can often walk all day and hardly see another person. We have books of local walks and maps that you can borrow and we've done many of the walks ourslves so we can advise you on routes of varying lengths from one-hour strolls around the village, to day-long treks that include a stretch of the Offa's Dyke long distance path. We're also extremely well placed to try out stretches of Wild Edric's Way, the Shropshire Way and the Jack Mytton Way, all of which are just a few minutes drive from us.
Circular Walks: we've mapped out a superb circular walk around the Redlake Valley that begins and ends at Well House. It's a figure of eight with each half about three miles in length, so you can do it in one or two bites. It takes you up onto the high ground overlooking Knighton acros to Wales and in the other direction across Clun to the Shropshire Hills. Click here to see it. There are a few more excellent circular walks on this next website - click here and we can thoroughly recommend a book of circular walks starting and finishing in Knighton that can be bought on-line from Kittiwake Books for £4.95 plus 0.75p post and packaging."
Caer Caradoc, an iron-age hill fort that was also the camp of the Celtic chief, Caractacus, at the time of his final stand against the Romans is right on our doorstep and is a brilliant walk. Another lovely walk that is not too strenuous takes in a route over the hills to Clun
where you can have lunch at The White Horse, and then walk back as slightly different way. If you don't want to do a circular route, although we can't take a taxi fare, a donation to Di's charity, Redearth Education will magically get you driven to your starting point and picked up again at the end of your walk. We provide packed lunches and we have laundry facilities and a place to park your muddy boots.
We are also a dog friendly B&B as long as your dog is friendly and you bring a rug for him to sleep on.
